Why is my meter inside?

Occasionally we have to fit our water meters inside a property where the internal stop tap is located.

We only do this as a last resort, when we are unable to fit the meter on the external stop tap. This is usually when the pipes outside are supplying more than one property so an external meter wouldn't read accurately for the property.
