Serious water Stress - compulsory meters
When an area is deemed to be in serious water stress by the Secretary of State, the Water Industry Act 1991 gives permission for water companies to meter domestic properties on a compulsory basis.
Serious water stress is when all available water sources are currently in use so demand starts to outstrip supply - which is why the legislation was introduced.
There are some circumstances where we will look to compulsory meter a domestic property. Further information can be found on our Charges page.
We do run enhanced metering programs in areas of our region, but we will not opt you onto a meter that has been fitted without your consent.
However if you move to a property that has one fitted, you will be registered onto the meter.
We do offer several tariffs dependant on usage and circumstances which you can look at on our Tariffs and Charges page.
